  1. Verbal Judo: The Gentle Art of Persuasion Discussion

    May 21, 2020, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM

The principles of the Japanese martial art of Judo (i.e., the Gentle Way) rely on using your opponents’ energy against them. Ninety-percent of issues in any relationship or organization are rooted in ineffective communication. In 1993, Dr. George Thompson wrote a book entitled Verbal Judo: The Gentle Art of Persuasion. In this work he shares several principles of communication that his personal experiences as a police officer and subsequent research suggest can make you a more effective communicator as well as help you to be more persuasive. Today, the partisan divide, the COVID 19 Pandemic, and the severe socio-economic challenges in the United States make his strategy invaluable. It should definitely be one approach that you consider adding to your personal communication repertoire. This introduction to this approach can help you decide if you want to read the book to find out more. Let us learn together at Sensei Thompson’s proverbial feet!
