RSVP News flash

Did you know that volunteering in your community can result in better physical and mental health? Many studies show that staying active and involved through volunteerism is good for your body and for your mind! These studies show that volunteering can decrease stress and also battle feelings of loneliness and depression. Emerging evidence suggests that people who donate their time obtain better physical health such as lower blood pressure and a longer lifespan!

A study conducted by the Corporation for National and Community Service dissects the health benefits of volunteering, specifically for older Americans. The study claims that “In particular, older volunteers report lower mortality rates, lower rates of depression, fewer physical limitations and higher levels of well-being.” The study also revealed that volunteering can assist older Americans in achieving a deeper social connection to their community and help them attain a sense of purpose.

The Greater St. Cloud Area RSVP engages over 1,200 men and women age 55 or better in meaningful volunteer service at 200 human service organizations throughout Stearns, Benton and Sherburne counties.

If you are age 55 or better and are interested in creating a healthier future for yourself while making a difference in your community please call the RSVP office at (320)255-7295 or visit our website at www.ci.stcloud.mn.us/RSVP.
