Please be advised that effective immediately, 9th/10th Avenue under the Highway 23 bridge, near downtown, is closed due to predicted flooding. Road closures and an alternative hospital route are clearly marked. All traffic should avoid this area. Vehicles should not attempt to use the road when flooded.
Flooding on 9th/10th Avenue under the Hwy 23 Bridge occurred during the recent storms on Monday, May 9th and Wednesday, May 11th. Strong storms are predicted once again for today, May 12th. This area is prone to flash flooding due primarily to elevations and the large storm shed that flows to this area. When possible, the City will be closing this roadway preemptively to prevent vehicles from stalling or being carried away.
Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles. Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including sport utility vehicles and pick-ups.
