Source Water Protection Week

Source Water Protection Week has given St. Cloud Public Utilities an opportunity to highlight its’ source water protection program which uses a proactive approach to safeguard, maintain or improve water quality in the area.  Benefits of this program include protection of public health through enhanced stewardship of the watershed, improved source water quality for the drinking water supply, and protection of local habitat and ecosystems.

The Stormwater Utility is an important component in the St. Cloud Source Water Protection Program.  Water quality professionals in the Public Utilities Department and Public Works Department work to maintain and improve water quality in area watersheds. This is accomplished by implementing best management practices to maintain the stormwater system (which includes over 190 miles of pipes), managing construction site runoff, investigating spills, providing public outreach and education, and promoting public participation and involvement.
