St. Cloud is using byproducts from community food and beverage industries, as well as other waste, to create energy.

At the St. Cloud Nutrient, Energy and Water Recovery Facility, helpful bacteria convert these products to biofuel. This biofuel is cleaned and used to produce electricity that is used onsite.

The generator produces over 4 million kWh’s of energy every year – that’s enough to give 500 homes electricity for an entire year. It’s also enough to account for almost 15% of the electricity St. Cloud uses to provide services every year!

Watch our video to learn how what was historically a waste product is being used to power our treatment facility, recover nutrients, and produce clean water.

Learn more about the biofuel process with our video.
