3/16/2023 Snow Operations

Posted on March 16, 2023 at 1:46 PM by Daniel Legatt

As of 11:00am, Street Division plow trucks and motor graders transitioned to a full-scale snow removal operation, maintaining high volume/arterial roadways. As snow accumulations decrease in the late afternoon hours, operators will slowly migrate towards secondary roads throughout the evening hours. Because the storm is predicted to drop significant precipitation through 2:00pm, plows will be required to make multiple passes along major corridors which are used as links across the city by emergency vehicles. With the timing of the event occurring throughout the daytime and early evening hours, the transition to residential roads is likely to occur tomorrow morning. Public Works is planning to run operations through 6:00pm tonight, at which time staff and equipment will be refreshed.

Sanitation personnel transitioned from their trash and recycling routes at 12:30pm, and immediately shifted to alley plowing. Staff also started plowing public passages downtown with alternative/medium duty truck plows and skid loaders. Crews will be out until 6:00pm tonight, concluding a 12-hour shift.

With the snow event coming late morning, Public Works is extending a thank you in advance for your patience during the maintenance operation, that includes clearing 800 lane miles of roadway.
