Planting Boulevard Trees
The City of St. Cloud, a Tree city USA for 41 years, encourages the planting of trees in the boulevard adjacent to a homeowner's property. While the city does not plant boulevard trees, we do approve requests for homeowners and volunteer groups to plant trees on city property.
City Right-of-Way
The city right-of-way, or boulevard, generally encompasses 66 feet on every roadway; this usually means that the area within 33 feet from the center of any city roadway is considered city property. Therefore, you do need permission to plant trees in this area. View the city's boulevard planting ordinance
online.

You do not need a permit to plant on your private property. However, it may be to your advantage to follow the Recommended Species for Planting list on the
Tree Planting Permit Fact Sheet document, as they are the most resistant to disease and insects for our area.
