Yard Waste DisposalSt. Cloud uses a volume-based yard waste collection system. All of the yard waste collected by the City is composted. Yard Waste Schedule for 2010 Yard waste collection will be every Monday beginning April 12, 2010 (weather permitting) through June 28, 2010. During July, August and September, 2010, yard waste will only be picked up on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. NOTE: The month of August will also have yard waste picked up on August 30, 2010. Beginning October 4, 2010, yard waste will resume being collected every Monday and will continue through November 22, 2010 (weather permitting). The cost for yard waste service is $1 per City yard waste bag (sold in quantities of 10; cost $10 per package). Bags are 30 gallons in capacity. No bags other than specially marked “City” bags will be picked up. Using Your Yard Waste Bags
Special yard waste collection service is available on Mondays during the yard waste season. To arrange for a special pickup of brush, tree branches, shrubs or bushes, call 320-650-2900. Brush and tree branches must be securely tied in bundles no larger than 4’ x 1’ in diameter. Please call in advance to arrange for this service. There is an additional charge for this service. Self-Haul Yard Waste Disposal ProgramsCompost Site City residents who subscribe to City refuse collection services are eligible to use the City’s self-haul compost site located at River Bluffs Regional Park area east of County Road 75 off of 33rd Street South. A compost site permit must be purchased at City Hall, 400 – 2nd Street South, during regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. Permit applications are also available online. Permits are not available at the compost site. At the time of purchase, applicant must provide proof of residency and the license plate number of the vehicle that will be used to transport yard waste to the compost site. Permits are non-transferable. The compost site permit must be displayed on the inside bottom of the passenger side of the windshield. Only clean yard waste, brush and tree waste free of soil, dirt, metal and concrete will be accepted. Acceptable yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings, pinecones, pumpkins, acorns, apples, garden vegetation and sod. Acceptable brush and tree waste includes shrubs, tree branches, corn stalks and firewood. Unacceptable Dimensional lumber and other manufactured wood products, pallets, and stumps. All loads entering the site must be covered and secured to prevent loss of waste in transit to the compost site. Residents must unload their own yard waste, and must take all empty bags and containers with them. Plastic bags cannot be left on site as they contaminate the yard waste. Free Compost and Wood ChipsPermit holders may self-load and haul composted soil and/or wood chips from the City compost site during normal hours of operation. Site users must provide their own shovels and containers and must self-load and haul the compost and wood chips. There is no additional charge for this service. Limits may be placed on the quantities of compost and/or wood chips available. For more information regarding the City’s compost site, please call the St. Cloud Park Department at 320 255-7216. Henkemeyer Landfill Residents may haul their yard waste and brush directly to Henkemeyer Demolition Landfill, located at 6045 Lark Road NW, Sauk Rapids. Yard waste is accepted in bag form or by pickup or utility trailer loads. Residents must remove waste from their bags and take the empty bags with them. There is a fee for this service. For cost information, location and hours of operation, call Henkemeyer Demolition Landfill at 320-252-6487. Christmas Tree Pickup Christmas trees are picked up each year in January. To qualify for pickup, a clear yard waste bag must be attached to the tree and clearly visible to collection crews. The tree must be placed in the normal refuse collection area by no later than 6:00 a.m. Dates for collection of trees will be published in the St. Cloud Times, and broadcast on local radio stations and cable Channel 19.
