Planning Office Objectives
- Encourage citizen participation and education in all aspects of city government, planning, and community life.
- Maintain and enhance the appearance, integrity, heritage, identity, and local character of the City’s built environment.
- Promote a variety of housing types in St. Cloud for all citizens.
- Create a high-quality living environment in all residential neighborhoods.
- Maintain a transportation system that is coordinated and cost-effective.
- Promote the expansion and development of the community’s greenspace (parkland, environmentally sensitive areas, river and streams, and trails).
- Recognize the need to create jobs and increase tax base by both ensuring commercial and industrial growth and maintaining existing businesses.
- Protect and conserve natural resources and environmentally sensitive areas.
- Work to provide City services in an equitable and cost-effective manner.
- Provide services in a timely, factual, and customer friendly manner.
- Promote on-going shared planning among governments in the tri-county area.
Planning Office Services
- Formulate, modify, and administer current and long-range master plans for the City that promote and facilitate the orderly development and redevelopment of the City.
- Develop and conduct public information meetings to engage and promote citizen awareness and participation.
- Develop and promote the adoption of policies and ordinances to implement the current and long-range goals of the City.
- Review all zoning and subdivision applications, provide accurate information, and make sound recommendations to the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and City Council.
- Work with developers, citizens, and businesses in planning projects to meet City policies and other regulatory codes by assembling information, documents, and forms to ensure code compliance.
- Work with Inspections Division in development and administration of an enforcement program to achieve equitable and effective implementation of the Zoning Ordinance and Heritage Preservation Ordinance to promote and protect the public health, safety, and general welfare of the community.
