Granite City Days - Mayor's Rock-On Awards

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis will kickoff Granite City Days at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, June 26, with the presentation of the 2008 Rock-On Awards on the campus of St. Cloud State University.

The mayor will present six awards this year to individuals and organizations in the St. Cloud community who have been nominated by local residents. The recipients demonstrated outstanding civic participation, leadership, or achievements. The six 2008 Rock – On Award recipients are:

JAMES R. (BIG JIM) TUORILA, PH.D. – Co-founder /organizer of “Freedom Flight, Inc” - an organization comprised of volunteers over the past 19 years who dedicate their time, talent and funds to fly three POW-MIA Hot Air Balloons at various events across America and the world.

KRIS PFLEPSEN - Kris is the Executive Director of WACOSA. She has been an active leader with the organization for 36 years and plans on retiring this year.

STEVE KAYSER - A resident of the Lake George Neighborhood area who has been honored by his neighborhood as an individual who goes above and beyond in providing volunteer assistance to his neighbors.

CREATE COMMUNITY – a growing community program with a vision to provide a welcoming, non-discriminatory environment with respect and opportunity for all, and to provide equality on health care, housing, and educational opportunities.

LIBERTY SAVINGS BANK a local business that contributes to charities, associations, and community festivals as its employees believe in giving back to the community.

MARGE BATES – an active, civic-minded individual in our community who works diligently for the school district, city festivals, and the betterment of her neighborhood.
